SpaceXAI, the company that used to be called xAI, has shipped a lot of Grok Bot news in September 2026. Enterprise controls arrived on September 3, finance tools built on Plaid on September 27, and shared Team Bots on September 28. On September 29 people noticed that dot.com, a domain xAI owns, sends visitors to the Grok download page on the same day OpenAI launched its dots agents. Two model updates landed in the same weeks: Grok Voice Transcribe 2.0 (September 18) and Grok 4.7 (September 21), which Grok Bot was trained to work with.
This guide covers what Grok Bot is, what it costs on each plan, which model runs it, and what each September launch changed. It also sorts the confirmed facts about Grok 4.8 and Grok 5 from the rumors, and clears up a mix-up we keep seeing in search results: Grok did not release a model called Muse. We flag the few places where an official source was out of reach.
What is Grok Bot?
Grok Bot is a desktop and mobile app for creating Bots: persistent AI teammates with names, roles and memory. SpaceXAI's docs say each Bot "works on a persistent cloud computer with a browser, filesystem, and terminal, so tasks finish in your real tools instead of as chat drafts." You give a Bot work by messaging it, typing or speaking, much as you would message a colleague. It works through the task and checks back only when it needs your approval.
Four things set it apart from a chat assistant:
- A computer of its own. Bots use connectors where they exist and computer use (driving a browser and apps) everywhere else, including sites with no API or MCP server. Work keeps going after you close your laptop.
- Several Bots at once. Bots can work in parallel, message each other and hand tasks to one another in group chats.
- Learning by demonstration. Walk a Bot through a workflow once and it can save the steps as a skill or routine and run them on a schedule.
- Memory that builds up. A named Bot keeps its preferences, files, browser sessions and summaries of past work between sessions.
One design choice matters for security. All of your Bots share a single cloud computer, including its files, browser sessions and app logins. The docs tell you to "treat anything placed on it as available to every Bot you run." Different users are isolated from each other, but your own Bots are not isolated from one another.
Where it came from
SpaceX announced its acquisition of xAI on February 2, 2026, and the company renamed itself SpaceXAI in July. The developer platform still lives at docs.x.ai and api.x.ai. Grok Bot is closely tied to Cursor: billing, the admin dashboard and the cloud computers all run through Cursor, and the docs say "the computers Bots work on run in Cursor's cloud." SpaceXAI says Grok Bot started as an internal prototype that spread across the company before it was opened to customers on August 11, 2026.
Platforms
Grok Bot launched on macOS and iOS. The current docs add Windows and Linux on desktop, plus iPad and Android.
Which model powers Grok Bot?
SpaceXAI does not name one. The Grok Bot settings docs say "Cursor manages model selection, so there is no model picker," and that applies to admins as well as members. You cannot choose the model yourself.
The best official clue is in the Grok 4.7 launch post from September 21: "We also trained Grok 4.7 to natively understand the Grok Bot harness, making it better at conversational tasks and general knowledge work." That strongly suggests Grok 4.7 is the main model behind Bots today. SpaceXAI has not said so outright, and routing could change without notice. Third-party guides from before September 21 said on-demand usage was priced at Grok 4.6 rates; Grok 4.6 and 4.7 cost the same ($2 / $6 per million tokens), so it makes no difference.

How much does Grok Bot cost?
There is no standalone Grok Bot subscription. Cursor's Grok Bot billing page says: "Grok Bot access is included on every paid individual Cursor plan and on Cursor Teams." You can also link an individual SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy or X Premium+ subscription. Usage is a weekly allowance that resets every week. Cursor publishes the order of the tiers but not how large each allowance is. Once the allowance runs out, you can keep going with on-demand usage billed through Cursor, if you have turned it on.
Access was much narrower at launch. On August 11 the beta was limited to SuperGrok Heavy, Cursor Ultra and Cursor Teams Premium, as InfoQ reported. Cursor Pro+, SuperGrok Plus and Teams Standard were added on August 21, and SpaceXAI's August 26 announcement extended it to all SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and Cursor Teams plans. Older articles that say Grok Bot needs a $120, $200 or $300 plan describe the launch week, not today.

Rules that catch people out
- Plans do not stack. Linking SuperGrok Heavy to a Cursor Ultra account adds no extra Grok Bot usage. You get one grant, whichever plan it comes from. To get more, move up a Cursor tier or turn on on-demand usage.
- A SuperGrok link is permanent. Cursor says a link "can't be unlinked or moved to a different Cursor account." Sign in with the right Cursor account before you link.
- There is no Grok Bot-only spend cap. On-demand usage counts toward your account's overall monthly limit, and a Bot already running "can finish past the monthly limit."
- The free trial is a usage credit with a 7-day window. One long job can use it all.
What is Grok Bot Enterprise?
On September 3, 2026, SpaceXAI opened Grok Bot to enterprise customers. Musk posted "Grok @Bot Enterprise is now available." Cursor CEO Michael Truell wrote that it was free "for all Grok and Cursor enterprise customers for the next two weeks." Coverage from AI Weekly adds that entire organizations could be invited during that window, including staff without an existing seat. Legora, Supermicro and ServiceTitan are named as customers.
The main additions are admin controls, which the Grok Bot enterprise docs list in detail:
- Network controls with four modes, from allow-all to allowlist-only.
- Audit logs for admin, security and authentication events. Viewable or streamable to a SIEM.
- Action Recording, off by default. It logs tool calls, commands and navigation metadata without message bodies. AI Weekly reports 90-day retention.
- OpenTelemetry export to your own monitoring stack.
- Team Secrets (up to 100 per team), enforced auto-review, and control over each user's cloud computer.
SpaceXAI has not published Enterprise pricing. Cursor Enterprise is "Custom," and Grok Bot access on it is turned on through your account executive.
Can Grok Bot manage your money? (Plaid, September 27)
On September 27, Musk posted that "Grok Bot can manage your finances." According to Teslarati, users can now link bank, credit card and investment accounts through Plaid. Grok Bot can then answer questions about spending and cash flow and help manage investments. It follows online purchasing (August 28) and a Tesla in-car integration (September 22), which Teslarati says is limited to SuperGrok Heavy subscribers.
When a user asked about the risk of giving an agent account access, Musk replied: "Try it out. If Grok Bot messes up, we will make you whole." Teslarati points out that SpaceXAI's standard terms make users responsible for what their agents do and cap liability at the greater of fees paid or $100. A post is not a contract term.
What are Grok Team Bots?
Team Bots launched on September 28, 2026, in public beta on Teams and Enterprise plans. A Team Bot is one Bot your whole team talks to. The owner sets it up once, then publishes it. SpaceXAI's launch post names Salesforce, Notion and GitHub as example plugins. Ready-made Team Bots are available for sales, product management, marketing and data analytics.
From the Team Bots docs:
- Conversations stay private. Each teammate gets their own chat. The owner cannot read teammates' chats, and teammates cannot read the owner's.
- It acts as the person asking. OAuth plugins use the account of whoever is talking to the Bot. Plugins configured with a key use the Bot's own shared credential.
- Two kinds of memory. Team memory is shared with everyone. Private notes are kept per person.
- Slack app. Each published Team Bot can have its own Slack app and handle, so people can DM it or @mention it in channels.
- Usage is charged to the person asking, not the owner.
Did SpaceXAI troll OpenAI's dots launch with dot.com?
Maybe, but there is no official confirmation. On September 29, OpenAI launched dots, always-on agents that run on their own cloud computers, which is very close to what Grok Bot does. The same day, users noticed that dot.com belongs to xAI and redirects to the Grok download page. TechCrunch reported that Whois records show the domain changed hands in July 2026. What else did SpaceXAI ship this month?
Grok Voice Transcribe 2.0 (September 18)
grok-voice-transcribe-2.0 is SpaceXAI's new speech-to-text model. It is served at POST https://api.x.ai/v1/stt for batch jobs and wss://api.x.ai/v1/stt for streaming. SpaceXAI calls it "twice as accurate as Grok Voice Transcribe 1.0, at the same price." Its largest gain is on short multilingual commands, where word error rate fell from 20.6% to 6.8% on a 19-language set. It is now the default when the model parameter is left out, and 1.0 will be deprecated in the coming weeks. Features include word timestamps, speaker diarization at no extra charge, transcription of up to 8 audio channels, up to 100 key terms per request to bias recognition, filler-word removal and smart turn detection.

Grok 4.7 and Grok 4.7 Fast (September 21)
Grok 4.7 is SpaceXAI's new model for coding and knowledge work. It has a 500K-token context window and costs $2 per million input tokens, $0.50 per million cached input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, the same as Grok 4.6. Cursor's pricing table adds that input above 256K tokens is billed at 2x. The Fast variant gives about twice the output speed at twice the price, or 3x standard rates for long-context requests. SpaceXAI's docs say Fast is "available only in Cursor and Grok Build," so it is not offered on the public API. Standard Grok 4.7 is available on the xAI API and through OpenRouter, Vercel and Cloudflare.

Did Grok release a model called Muse?
No. Muse is Meta's model family, built by Meta Superintelligence Labs. It includes Muse Spark and the Muse assistant, and at Connect 2026 (September 23) Meta showed a keychain device called Muse Charm with a real-time avatar. The confusion probably comes from seeing both names on the same leaderboards. Artificial Analysis's streaming speech-to-text chart, for example, lists "Muse Voice Transcribe" right next to Grok Voice Transcribe 2.0. They are competing products from different companies. When is Grok 4.8 coming out? (And Grok 5)
There is no official release date for either. Here is what is actually confirmed:
- Grok 4.8: The only source is Musk's X post of September 14. He described it as "a 2.5T model trained with our new C++ software stack" that "will finish training this week and start RL." There is no model page, no API model ID, no price and no benchmarks. It has not been said whether 2.5T is the total or active parameter count.
- Grok 4.9: In the same thread Musk wrote that it is "probably Astra/Fable class." That is his prediction, not a benchmark result.
- Grok 5: The company has said it is training on the Colossus 2 cluster. Musk has called it the model he expects to reach AGI. Parameter figures of 6 to 10 trillion come from third parties and are unconfirmed. Earlier release targets were missed.
Treat any "Grok 4.8 release date" as a guess until a model appears on docs.x.ai.
Who should use Grok Bot?
- Cursor Pro, Pro+ or Ultra users: You already have access. Try one real multi-tool task, such as CRM cleanup or bug reproduction, and watch your weekly allowance before enabling on-demand.
- Teams that live in Slack: Team Bots are the strongest reason to look now. A shared Bot with read-only credentials and a Slack handle is easy to trial, though it is still in beta.
- Regulated or security-sensitive companies: Wait for Enterprise. Network allowlists, audit logs and OpenTelemetry export are Enterprise-only. Remember that personal Bots share one computer and its logins.
- Finance features: Try them on a secondary account first. Musk's "make you whole" promise is not in the terms of service.
- If you only need speech-to-text or an API model: You don't need Grok Bot at all. Call
grok-voice-transcribe-2.0orgrok-4.7on the API.
Choosing between Grok Bot and OpenAI dots comes down to ecosystem and price: Grok Bot starts with Cursor Pro at $20 and ties into Cursor Cloud Agents, while dots are reported to start on OpenAI's Pro and Business Premium plans.

Is Grok Bot free?
Not in the long run. New users get a free trial credit, measured by agent steps and tokens, with a 7-day window. After that you need a paid Cursor plan (Pro is $20 a month) or a linked individual SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy or X Premium+ subscription. SuperGrok Lite does not include it.
How much is Grok Bot per month?
There is no separate price. It comes with Cursor Pro ($20), Pro+, Ultra, Teams ($40 or $120 per seat) and Enterprise (custom), or with a linked SuperGrok subscription. Third-party summaries list SuperGrok at $30 and SuperGrok Heavy at $300 per month. Usage beyond the weekly allowance is billed on demand.
