Meta Muse Charm & Muse Realtime Avatar: Connect 2026 Guide

Meta used Connect 2026 on September 23 to push Muse, its consumer AI agent, beyond the phone. The keynote brought a keychain device called Muse Charm, a research-backed real-time video avatar model, a new voice model, computer use on the Mac, glasses integration and a long list of shopping and productivity connectors. The following week added two business launches: the Meta Enterprise Platform on September 28 and Muse for Small Business on September 29.

This guide collects everything in one place: what each announcement does, what you can use today and what is still "coming soon", the only benchmark Meta published (human-preference tests for the avatar model), and what is still unknown, such as the Charm's price. One point up front: Connect did not bring a new Muse text model. Muse Spark 1.3, listed on September 2, is still the latest.

What is Muse Charm?

Muse Charm is a small handheld device that hangs from a keychain or bag and lets you talk to Muse without taking out your phone. TechCrunch described it as looking like a Tamagotchi. Its argument is that the Charm fits a newer Gen Z trend of bag charms, Labubu collectibles and Apple Watch keychain accessories, as much as it plays on 1990s nostalgia.

What does Muse Charm look like and what's inside?

Reports put it at roughly the size of an AirPods case, with a touchscreen of about two inches that shows a customizable, animated Muse character. The launch characters reported by DailyCoin are Meta's "Jolly" Muse mascot, an anthropomorphic mango, a labradoodle and a piece of toast wearing sunglasses. New Atlas says you press a fingerprint sensor on the side to talk to it, and the device has its own 5G connection, so it does not need your phone nearby. Meta's own post says it runs a "state of the art real-time voice model".

Coverage disagrees on cameras. DailyCoin and some other outlets say the Charm has cameras so Muse can see what you point it at. Gulf News says it deliberately has none. Meta's announcement post does not settle it, so treat the camera question as open until Meta publishes a spec sheet.

How much does Muse Charm cost and when does it ship?

Meta has not announced a price. Its own post says more details are coming "later this year", and New Atlas and other outlets report Meta is aiming to ship in December, in time for the holidays. Any price you see quoted right now is a guess.

Is Muse Charm another Humane AI Pin or Rabbit R1?

The comparison is fair, and the track record for AI gadgets is poor. Gulf News notes that the Humane AI Pin cost $699 plus a monthly fee and stopped working after HP bought Humane's assets in February 2025, and that the $199 Rabbit R1 made a similar pitch in 2024. New Atlas went further and argued the Charm mostly exists to make Meta's agent feel approachable, predicting no second version.

Meta starts from a different place, though. The Humane Pin and Rabbit R1 were the whole product. The Charm is an extra way into an agent that already runs on phones, the Mac and, soon, glasses, and that topped US app store charts in September. If the Charm flops, Muse keeps going. The things to watch are the price, whether it needs a separate data plan, and whether the avatar model below actually ships on it.

What is Muse Realtime Avatar?

Muse Realtime Avatar is a model from Meta Superintelligence Labs, described in a Meta research post on September 23, that gives Muse a face you can hold a live video conversation with. You create an avatar and it speaks, moves its lips and shows expressions in sync with Muse's voice as the conversation happens.

How does Muse Realtime Avatar work?

Meta describes it as "an audio-driven, Diffusion Transformer conditioned on speech-token stream, reference media, and a rolling window of recent video latents." In practice:

• It shares a token stream with the voice model. The avatar reads the same speech tokens as Muse Realtime Voice, which keeps voice, lip motion and expression aligned instead of dubbing video onto finished audio.
• It generates video in chunks. A rolling window of recent video latents lets it stream short segments continuously and stay consistent from one chunk to the next.
• It is heavily distilled. The teacher model uses 40 diffusion steps with three-way classifier-free guidance, which comes to 120 model evaluations per output. Meta distilled that into a causal student with a fixed-length KV cache that needs two unguided steps. Meta calls this a 60x cut in neural function evaluations and says the student closely preserves teacher quality: its human-preference chart shows a near-even 45% / 55% split.

The 870ms figure matters most. Under a second from when you stop talking to when a synced face starts answering is close to how long a person pauses before replying. Twelve sessions on one GB200 is what makes it realistic to offer this to a consumer app with a large user base.

Muse Realtime Avatar vs Runway Characters vs HeyGen LiveAvatar: which is better?

Meta's only published comparison is a human-preference test in live conversations against two commercial real-time avatar products. People talked to each system and chose which one they preferred.

Treat these as vendor numbers. Meta ran the study, picked the competitors and set up the conditions, and no independent test has been published. Runway and HeyGen products are available to buy through their own APIs today, while Muse Realtime Avatar is not. If you need an embeddable real-time avatar for your own product now, the comparison is academic until Meta offers an API.

Can developers use Muse Realtime Avatar?

Not yet. Meta has not given a launch date for the avatar in the Muse app; its research post says the examples shown "do not all reflect avatars available in the Muse app", and DailyCoin reports it is also coming to the Charm. Meta has not announced an API, a price or open weights. Meta has started releasing open weights again, but nothing suggests this model is part of that.

What is Muse Realtime Voice?

Muse Realtime Voice is the speech model behind live conversations with Muse. You shape the voice by describing it, for example "faster, slower, or even a specific accent", in Meta's words, and you do not pick from a preset list. Muse can also keep working on a task in the background while you keep talking to it, so a conversation does not stall while it books something or searches. It shares its speech-token stream with the avatar model, which is how the two stay in sync.

What else is new: Mac app, email, glasses and connectors?

Muse on the Mac

The Mac app gets computer use. With your permission, Muse can drive any app on your Mac, and you can walk away while the task keeps running. That puts Muse in the same category as the desktop agents from OpenAI and Anthropic, but aimed at consumers. A Muse email address

Muse will get its own email address. You forward it a thread, such as a reservation change or a receipt that needs filing, and it handles the task. Meta did not give a date.

Muse on Meta glasses

Muse is coming to Meta's AI glasses "in the coming months". You start it by saying your agent's name, and it can use what you are looking at to answer questions without you describing it. TechCrunch lists workouts, meal logging, appointments and shopping as example uses.

New connectors

According to TechCrunch, Alexandr Wang said Meta received "more than 1,500 applications in less than [a] week" once it opened the connector platform. Muse is free with a token allowance, and Meta says it will make money partly by taking "a small fee from transactions", which explains the focus on retail.

Muse for Small Business launched on September 29, 2026. It is Muse with business context: you set goals for your business and connect it to your data, and it drafts plans, posts, replies and analyses using your brand voice, products and customer questions.

It can read analytics from Instagram professional accounts, Facebook Pages and Meta ad accounts. Third-party connectors include Shopify, Stripe, Intuit QuickBooks, Canva, Figma, Slack, Asana, Dropbox, Box, Zoom, HighLevel, Klaviyo, Lovable, Notion and Granola, and you can build custom connectors.

The main safeguard is approval. In TestingCatalog's summary of Meta's announcement, "Muse will not publish content, send messages or spend money unless the user authorizes it." Because the agent can reach ad accounts and payment systems, this is the setting that matters most.

How much does Muse for Small Business cost?

There is a free tier with usage limits, and paid plans for heavier use. Gulf News lists Muse's consumer tiers as free (up to 100 million tokens a week), $20 a month (500 million tokens a week) and $100 a month (3 billion tokens a week). TechCrunch confirms the free-plus-paid structure for the business product but does not list prices, so check the plan page before you budget. Muse itself launched in the US and Canada, and the business announcements do not name other countries.

What is the Meta Enterprise Platform?

Announced September 28, the Meta Enterprise Platform is Meta's new business AI unit, led by former MongoDB CEO CJ (Chirantan) Desai, who reports directly to Mark Zuckerberg. At launch it bundles four products:

• Meta Business Agent (for WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram)
• the Muse API

The only price on the table is the existing developer API: Muse Spark at $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens. The snippet above calls the current Muse Spark model through OpenRouter's standard chat-completions endpoint. Neither the avatar nor the realtime voice models are exposed there.

Did Meta release a new Muse model at Connect?

No. Connect was about products and interfaces, not a new text model.
